Registering for Wave Robotics

What is Wave about, and how do I register?

What is Wave Robotics?

Wave Robotics is a high school student team that competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition.

Under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams are challenged to raise funds, design a brand, and use teamwork skills to create a robot that performs tasks against a field of competitors.

Wave Robotics is as close to real-world engineering projects and business applications as a student can get.

Students are led by mentors who volunteer their time and skills to teach them about all aspects of the team's work.

Within the Wave Robotics team there are subteams you can join:

  • Marketing
  • Chairman's Award
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) / Product Integration
  • Electrical
  • Manufacturing
  • Software
  • Safety
  • Scouting

These subteams all contribute to and help the team in many different ways:

  • Marketing designs the team's "brand" and helps to get the word out about the team
  • Chairman's prepares presentations and videos that help with outreach and competes for the Chairman's Award, given to the team that best embodies the mission of FIRST. Chairman's also completes the innovation project, which develops a solution to a real-world problem, and carries out logistics work for the team
  • CAD / Product Integration uses computer modeling to design the robot parts
  • Manufacturing uses CAD's models to make the parts and build the robot
  • Software programs the robot to complete the challenges on the field
  • Scouting is active during in-person competitions and is responsible for identifying other teams with which to form alliances

Here are some of the skills students develop:

  • Community Service/Outreach
  • Creative Writing
  • Electrical Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Fundraising
  • Leadership
  • Machining
  • Mechanical Design
  • Photography/Videography
  • Presentations/Public Speaking
  • Programming
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Website Design
  • Event Planning
